What you need to know about water repellents.

When you use a water repellant, you can extend your product's life and liveliness. In wet weather, it prevents the fabric's outer layer from becoming saturated with water, so materials dry more quickly. It makes fabric last longer and stay stronger, no matter the elements!

Outdoor backpacking, winter sports, hunting, fishing and other industries benefit from using water repellents on their products. However, there is no limit to what you can treat with a water repellant! If you are in damp or wet outdoor conditions often, you may want to consider investing in a good repellent.

Protectants can be applied at the manufacturer pre-purchase or you can treat your products yourself. Protectants tend to wear down with time and can become less effective with washes. It is important that you apply coats of protectants to your products periodically.

Here are a few of our favorite water repellent products:

AQUA-TITE® GREEN can be used on acrylic, cotton, nylon, polypropylene, polyester, and polyester and cotton blends, like garments and sporting goods equipment, tents, awnings, boat covers, boat tops, canvas, and leather footwear.

IOSSO dries completely without residue, making it nice to preserve colors on solution-dyed acrylics like Sunbrella.

IOSSO protects from water, soil, oil, bird droppings, and environmental pollutants. It is recommended for use on awnings, canopies, canvas, tents, patio furniture, cushions, umbrellas, spa covers, tarps, boat covers, bimini tops, hunting fabrics, camping gear, leather, synthetics, and vinyl.

Nikwax adds water repellency to fabrics, increases fabric strength & protects against UV deterioration. One application can double the effective life of fabrics! It’s easy to use, safe, and creates a high performance waterproofing and UV blocker for all synthetic weatherproof textiles.
